Patrick Beauchesne is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, housed in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters. His research focuses on bioarchaeology, biocultural theory, skeletal biology, and growth/development studies. He holds a PhD in Anthropology and has conducted fieldwork in Peru, Turkey, and Italy, analyzing ancient skeletal remains to understand past human conditions.
Research interests include how cultural practices shape biological outcomes, from birth to old age, with particular attention to bone metabolism, gender health disparities, and nutritional anthropology. His work employs advanced imaging techniques (pQCT/μCT) to study skeletal adaptations to environmental and social pressures.
Publications span medieval skeletal analyses, including studies on spinal degeneration linked to economic status and dental pathology in Italian communities. His edited volume on children in bioarchaeology highlights interdisciplinary approaches to reconstructing childhood experiences in premodern societies.
