Patrick Barrie

Professor Patrick Barrie (MA, PhD [Cantab.], CChem, FRSC, CEng, FIChemE) is a faculty member at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with Emmanuel College and the School of Technology. He serves as Professor of Chemical Engineering Education and has been an Official Fellow since 2007, previously holding roles as Deputy Head (Teaching) in his department and Deputy Head (Education) in the School of Technology.

• Education: MA and PhD in Physical Chemistry from Cambridge; Natural Sciences degree at Emmanuel College.
• Academic roles: Director of Studies in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology since 1995, Research Fellow at University College London (Chemistry Department).

His research focuses on:

• Characterization of solids via NMR spectroscopy
• Kinetic measurements on microporous catalysts
• Adsorption, diffusion, and reaction mechanisms in porous materials
• Development of numerical methods for interpreting experimental process kinetics data

  He has taught courses on 'Process Calculations,' 'Reaction Engineering,' and 'Data Analysis' to undergraduate students since 1995. Notably, he received the Pilkington Prize in 2008 for teaching excellence.
