Patrick Alcedo is a Professor at York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design, specializing in Dance History and Theory. He holds a BA from the University of the Philippines and a PhD from UC Riverside, supported by the Asian Cultural Council’s Ford Foundation grant.
His research bridges Philippine cultural practices, gender studies, and religious performance. Notable works include the documentary films Ati-atihan Lives (Gawad Urian nominee) and A Piece of Heaven, funded by SSHRC. He has published in Journal of Southeast Asian Studies and Dance Ethnography and Global Perspectives.
Awardees of the Young Professional Award (2012), Early Researcher Award (2014), and the prestigious Selma Jeanne Cohen Award (2014), his work interrogates intersections of indigeneity, migration, and cultural preservation. Recent projects examine Filipina caregivers in Toronto through a humanities lens.
