About
Patricia Search is a Professor and Director of the Center for Global Communication+Design at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Her work bridges art, technology, and education through multimedia installations that explore interactive design, perceptual dichotomies, and non-Western spatial perspectives. She holds affiliations with Information Technology and Web Science.
Her research focuses on expanding experience design syntax and relational aesthetics through immersive environments that merge physical and virtual elements. She has led over 40 solo exhibitions globally and contributed to 150+ group exhibitions across multiple countries.
Search has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Fulbright Grant and IVLA’s top honors. She served as Co-Editor of the Journal of Visual Literacy, authored/co-edited five books, and held leadership roles in the International Visual Literacy Association and ISAST.
Her academic contributions span art, technology, and education, with a focus on visual literacy and cross-cultural design principles.
