About
Patricia Beddows is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth, Environment & Society at McMaster University. Her research focuses on interdisciplinary studies of karst systems, coastal environmental change, and archaeological geosciences, with extensive field work in the Yucatan Peninsula. She develops innovative environmental monitoring tools and analyzes paleoenvironmental records to understand hydrogeological processes.
Her research integrates:
- Hydrogeology of coastal aquifer systems
- Microbial biogeography in extreme environments
- Geophysical methods in archaeological site reconstruction
- Paleoclimate reconstruction using speleothem proxies
- Development of low-cost environmental sensors
Recent publications emphasize urban ecohydrology, microbial ecosystems in karst aquifers, and Maya coastal settlements. She leads field-based investigations of water resource sustainability in vulnerable coastal regions and develops open-source tools for environmental monitoring in harsh conditions.
