Pascale Fanen

Pascale Fanen is an active academic and clinical researcher at the University of Paris-Est Créteil, holding multiple leadership positions: Full Professor of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology at the Health Faculty, head of the Genetic laboratory at Henri Mondor University Hospital, co-head of EUR-LIVE Health & Biology, director of the multidisciplinary Life Sciences and Health Sciences (SVS) Doctoral School, and deputy director of the GEIC2O team at IMRB (Institut Mondor de Recherche Biomédicale).

Professor Fanen's research specializes in the molecular genetics of respiratory diseases, with continuous work since 1989 on Cystic Fibrosis (CFTR gene defects) and expanded focus since 2011 on surfactant disorders involving ABC transporters like ABCA3. Her investigations target genetic mutation characterization, splicing defects, and phenotype severity mechanisms in rare respiratory conditions, bridging clinical medicine and molecular biology.

Her publication record demonstrates consistent expertise in rare respiratory disease mechanisms, exemplified by the 2017 study on SFTPC mutations revealing splicing defects as drivers of severe clinical phenotypes. This work aligns with her broader research trend of translating molecular findings into clinical understanding of genetic respiratory disorders.

As director of the SVS Doctoral School, she oversees multidisciplinary doctoral training spanning physiology, physiopathology, and therapeutics. She teaches molecular genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry to medical and scientific students while leading grant-funded research through the GEIC2O team at IMRB.

She directs the Genetic laboratory at Henri Mondor University Hospital and co-leads the GEIC2O research team at IMRB, which investigates gene-environment interactions in COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, and other rare respiratory diseases through integrated clinical and molecular approaches.
