About
Pascal Jonkheijm is a Full Professor at the University of Twente, leading the Biointerface Chemistry Group within the Molecular Nanofabrication (TNW-MM-MNF) section of the Faculty of Science and Technology. He is also a Principal Investigator (PI) at the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology, the TechMed Centre, and the Organ-on-Chip Centre. His research focuses on engineering bio-inspired interfaces and materials through supramolecular interactions and self-assembly.
- Education: PhD in Macromolecular Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (2005), supervised by Prof. Dr. E.W. Meijer.
- Research Areas: Cell-instructive biointerfaces, self-assembly, biomimetics, cell-surface interactions, organic materials.
Jonkheijm has authored or co-authored 150 refereed research papers and holds three granted patents. He actively explores commercial applications of his work through ERC Proof-of-Concept grants and co-founded Lipocoat B.V., a spin-off commercializing bio-inspired coatings for healthcare.
- Scientific Awards:
- Houwink Award (2006)
- VENI Grant (2008)
- ERC Starting Grant (2010)
- Young Investigator Award (2010)
- VIDI Grant (2013)
- Royal Netherlands Chemical Society Gold Medal (2018)
- NWO-XL consortium grant
He has held visiting professorships at the University of Toronto (2017/8) and institutions in China. His work bridges supramolecular chemistry, nanofabrication, and biomedical applications, with a focus on dynamic cell-material interactions.
