About
Pascal Daleau is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Université Laval, where he conducts research and teaches in the fields of cardiac electrophysiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. He is affiliated with the Quebec Heart Institute and has been a principal investigator supported by the Heart and Stroke Foundation. His academic leadership includes serving as President of the Research Committee at Université Laval and chairing the 81st ACFAS Congress in 2013.
Education:
- PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology, University of Poitiers, France
- Advanced Studies Diploma in Cellular and Molecular Biology
- Master’s in Physiology and Pharmacology
- Bachelor’s in Cell Biology
- General University Diploma in Life Sciences
- Authorization to Supervise Research, University of Poitiers
His research focuses on the arrhythmic effects of cardiac ischemia, mechanisms of cardioprotection, effects of non-antiarrhythmic drugs on the heart, and high-altitude acclimatization. He investigates how metabolic conditions like obesity and diabetes influence drug-induced arrhythmias and postoperative atrial fibrillation. His work combines molecular, cellular, and clinical approaches to understand ion channel function and drug safety.
His recent publications reveal a consistent focus on cardiac ion channels (especially Kv1.5 and hERG), polymorphisms linked to arrhythmias, drug-induced QT prolongation, and risk factors for postoperative atrial fibrillation. The studies span from basic science (e.g., hydrogen peroxide modulation of Kv1.5) to clinical pharmacology (e.g., statins and mortality after CABG).
Scientific Contributions:
- Extensive research on drug-induced cardiac repolarization abnormalities
- Investigations into metabolic syndrome as a pro-arrhythmic condition
- Leadership in academic pharmacology and research governance
- Funding from the Heart and Stroke Foundation
Dr. Daleau has mentored numerous graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, many of whom have gone on to careers in research, industry, and academia. He teaches advanced courses in experimental cardiology, coronary pathophysiology, and ion channel physiology. He is not known to be retired or deceased, and remains an active academic figure at Université Laval.
