Pascal Bellon

Pascal Bellon is the Donald W. Hamer Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He received his electrical engineering degree from École Supérieure d'Électricité (France) in 1984 and a PhD in materials science from University Paris 6 in 1989. Before joining UIUC in 1996, he worked at the CEA Center for Research in Saclay, France, and held a postdoctoral fellowship at UIUC (1993-1994). His research focuses on alloys under external forces such as irradiation, wear, and deformation, with an emphasis on non-equilibrium phenomena like compositional patterning, irradiation-induced segregation, and nanoscale microstructural evolution.

Key honors include the NSF Career Award (1998), Don Burnett Teaching Award (2000), and multiple teaching excellence awards. His work spans experimental and computational methods, including molecular dynamics, kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, and phase field modeling. Bellon leads the Bellon Group, collaborating with researchers like Prof. Averback on radiation-resistant materials and tribology.
