Parimal Patel is an Emeritus Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) within the University of Sussex Business School. With over 35 years of expertise, his work focuses on science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy, particularly innovation indicators, globalization of R&D, and national systems of innovation. He has led major projects funded by the EU and UK Research Councils, including the FP7 GLOBINN project on international innovation dynamics and the RAPPORT initiative to strengthen SME-research partnerships.
His research interests include university-industry collaboration, technological diffusion in developed economies, and the economic impact of corporate R&D investments. Patel has authored over 30 journal articles, 22 book chapters, and numerous policy reports, contributing to journals like Research Policy and Cambridge Journal of Economics. He has advised the OECD, European Commission, and governments of the UK and Australia.
