About
Paolo Perego is Full Professor of Accounting and Program Director of the MSc Accounting and Finance at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. His research bridges accounting and sustainability science, focusing on how organizations measure, report, and assure non-financial performance.
Research spans three interconnected streams: 1) Design and implementation of performance measurement systems integrating financial and non-financial metrics, 2) Assurance and quality of sustainability disclosures, particularly Integrated Reporting, and 3) Ecological foundations of corporate sustainability using frameworks like planetary boundaries. His work employs both empirical archival methods and conceptual approaches.
Dr. Perego's publications appear in leading journals including Accounting, Organizations and Society; Journal of Management Studies; and Business Strategy and the Environment. His influential 2013 Journal of Management Studies article introduced the planetary boundaries framework to business studies, establishing ecological thresholds as foundational for corporate sustainability research.
He teaches courses on Accounting, Sustainability Accounting, and Academic Writing. As Program Director, he oversees international opportunities including a scholarship program for studies in New York. Current research examines how environmental, social, and governance factors influence corporate acquisition strategies and the informational value of textual disclosures.
