Paolo Ferrari is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Lugano (Università della Svizzera italiana) within the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences. He serves as the Chief Medical Officer of the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale in Ticino and is a medical consultant in nephrology at Ospedale Civico of Lugano. He completed medical training at the University Hospital of Berne, specializing in internal medicine, nephrology, and hypertension certification from the ESH.
Prof. Ferrari led the Australian Paired Kidney Exchange Program and directed kidney transplantation at Sydney’s Prince of Wales Hospital until 2017. He was awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2015 for contributions to kidney transplantation. He actively participates in professional committees (ISN, APSN, TTS) and editorial roles in nephrology journals.
His research focuses on chronic kidney disease, immunogenetics, and transplantation outcomes. He holds over 180 peer-reviewed publications and an H-index of 46. He currently serves on the boards of the Foundation for the Institute for Oncological Research (IOR) and the CRST (Servizio Trasfusionale della Svizzera Italiana).
