Paolo Barbieri

Prof. Paolo Barbieri is a full professor of Economic Sociology at the University of Trento, Italy, and currently serves as Director of the School in Social Science. He holds a PhD from the University of Trento and previously worked at the University of Milan-Bicocca before returning to Trento in 2007. He is an Associate Editor of the European Sociological Review and a member of the Center for Social Inequality Studies. His research focuses on comparative welfare and labor market dynamics, including technological and institutional determinants of occupational instability and societal dualization in Europe.

Prof. Barbieri’s academic career includes a former role as Visiting Researcher at the Research Department for Skill Formation and Labor Markets. His current projects examine structural changes in European labor markets and their implications for inequality. He combines interdisciplinary perspectives to analyze how institutional frameworks and technological advancements shape labor market outcomes and social stratification.
