About
Paolo Annibale is a Reader in Biophysics at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of St Andrews. His research employs biophotonics and nanotechnology to study molecular mechanisms in cellular signaling, with expertise in fluorescence microscopy and scanning probe methods.
Research focuses on:
- Subcellular localization of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs)
- Receptor-G protein dynamics and interactions
- Cellular signaling modulation under stress conditions
- Advanced microscopy techniques for live-cell imaging
Recent publications (2021-2024) primarily investigate GPCR dynamics in cardiomyocytes, membrane protein diffusion effects on signaling, and receptor localization impacts on cellular respiration. This work integrates super-resolution microscopy with molecular biology approaches.
He currently advises seven PhD students researching cellular signaling mechanisms and leads projects on subcellular pharmacokinetics funded by EPSRC. His group collaborates internationally on cardiac signaling projects.
