Paola Monteros-Freeman is an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese at the University of Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. in Spanish (expected 2024) from the University of Virginia, an M.A. in Hispanic Studies (summa cum laude, 2018) from Virginia Tech, and a B.A. in Spanish (summa cum laude, 2015) from Mercy College, New York. Her research focuses on 20th/21st-century Latin American literatures and cultures, film, women writers, and the Global South.
She has presented work at conferences such as the Women’s and Gender Studies Conference at Virginia Tech (2018) and MIFLC at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (2017). Awards include the Outstanding Master of Arts Student Award and memberships in honor societies Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Sigma Iota. Her office is located in New Cabell Hall 418, with regular office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays 11:00am–12:00pm and by appointment.
