Pamela Jackson

Pamela Jackson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She holds dual appointments as an Associate Scientist in the UAB School of Medicine and maintains active roles in interdisciplinary research and teaching. Her work focuses on environmental health disparities, epigenetic mechanisms, and the intersection of socioeconomic factors with chronic disease outcomes.

Education:

• PhD in Nursing (University of Alabama at Birmingham, 2022)
• BSN and multiple nursing certifications (University of Alabama at Birmingham and Jefferson State Community College)
• Bachelor of Social or Behavioral Science in Sociology and Anthropology (Eastern Oregon University, 2012)

Research Interests: Jackson’s research examines how neighborhood environments and socioeconomic status influence epigenetic aging biomarkers, chronic pain, and racial health disparities. She employs both quantitative and scoping review methodologies to explore mechanisms linking environmental exposures to health outcomes.

Grants: Jackson has secured funding from the NIH, including grants studying epigenetic biomarkers in chronic pain and preeclampsia risk among hypertensive mothers. These projects reflect her commitment to advancing understanding of health equity through environmental and genetic research.

Teaching & Advising: She teaches ENH615 - Environmental Justice and serves on dissertation committees, including for Aishwarya Kaushal. She advises Lindsey K Lees and Margaret A Treanor, emphasizing mentorship in public health and nursing research.
