About
Dr. Pedro Rodriguez Dafonte is a Professor in the Department of Physical Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), affiliated with the Faculty of Chemistry. He earned his PhD in 2001 from the University of Vigo with a thesis on reactivity in biomimetic media. His research focuses on reaction mechanisms in microemulsions, surfactant systems, and supramolecular chemistry, particularly involving cyclodextrins and ionic liquids. He leads the ReactyCat research group (Reactivity and Catalysis).
Education: PhD in Physical Chemistry (University of Vigo, 2001), advised by Dr. Juan Carlos Mejuto Fernández and Dr. Pablo Hervés Beloso.
Research interests include:
- Reactivity modulation in micellar and microemulsion environments
- Cyclodextrin-based host-guest chemistry
- Synthetic applications of supramolecular nanoparticles
- Aggregation phenomena in ionic liquids
- Catalytic systems for nitrosation/denitrosation reactions
Recent publications emphasize methodological advances (e.g., STAND-ITC for aggregation number determination) and explore pseudorotaxane formation kinetics and nanomaterial synthesis. His work bridges physical chemistry fundamentals with applications in organic synthesis and environmental chemistry.
No scientific awards listed. No current advisees or grants detailed. Active in the ReactyCat group focusing on catalysis and reactivity studies.
