Dr. P. Daniel Chen is an Associate Professor in the Higher Education Program at George Mason University’s School of Integrative Studies and currently serves as Interim Executive Director of the School. He holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University, an M.S. in Counseling from the University of North Texas, and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan. His postdoctoral training was at Indiana University’s Center for Postsecondary Research.
Dr. Chen’s research focuses on institutional policies, socio-economic factors, and individual influences on student success. His work integrates psychological, sociological, and economic perspectives to address issues in higher education accountability, leadership, and STEM education. He teaches courses on research methods, policy, and assessment in higher education.
He has authored over 30 publications, including influential articles on academic-student affairs collaboration, STEM pedagogy, and ethical campus culture. His grants include a $49,656 Virginia Dual Enrollment Cost Study (2020) and a NASPA grant on student engagement tracking (2014). He serves on editorial boards such as the Journal of College Student Development and is active in professional associations like ASHE and AERA.
Dr. Chen has mentored over a dozen doctoral students and contributed to grants totaling over $55,000. His work bridges institutional effectiveness, student development, and ethical leadership, with a focus on STEM education equity and policy analysis.
