About
Professor Owen Addison is a Professor of Oral Rehabilitation at King's College London (KCL) and an Honorary NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. He holds a dental degree from the University of Birmingham (2001) and a PhD in Biomaterials (2007). Previously, he was the ADA&C Endowed Chair in Oral Health Translational Research at the University of Alberta (2016–2019) and Professor of Applied Biomaterials at the University of Birmingham (2006–2016). His research focuses on biomaterials, implant science, and translational oral health, with interdisciplinary work spanning life sciences, engineering, and clinical dentistry.
Research interests include biomaterials for dental implants, corrosion mechanisms in oral environments, synchrotron-based imaging techniques, and osseointegration. His lab has received funding from EPSRC, NIHR, and industry partners. Notable awards include the NIHR Clinician Scientist Fellowship (2011), IADR Innovation in Implant Sciences Award (2013), and IADR Distinguished Scientist Award – Young Investigator (2016).
Recent projects include AI-driven dental diagnostics, aerosol mitigation in dentistry, and advanced biomaterials for periodontal regeneration. His work bridges clinical needs with cutting-edge materials science, aiming to improve patient outcomes in restorative dentistry and head/neck oncology rehabilitation.
