Orla Slattery

Orla Slattery is a Lecturer in Biochemistry at the Department of Biopharmaceutical & Medical Science, National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway), and serves as a Principal Investigator at the Marine and Freshwater Research Centre (MFRC). Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly focusing on biodiversity protection and ecosystem sustainability. Dr. Slattery’s research expertise includes microbial pathogens, invasive species dynamics, and aquatic ecosystem health, with a notable study on the first recorded crayfish plague outbreak in Ireland.

Her research interests center on Oomycetes (water molds) and their ecological impacts, including their role as keystone species in disease transmission. This work contributes to understanding invasive species management and disease outbreak mitigation in freshwater systems.
