About
Onarae Rice is Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience and Department Chair at Furman University. His research examines neural mechanisms of addiction, focusing on cannabinoid systems and dopamine D3 receptors using behavioral assays and neuroimaging. Current projects investigate: 1) Ethanol's impact on brain glucose metabolism and cannabinoid pathways, 2) Toluene's addictive properties in inhalant abuse, and 3) D3 receptor involvement in natural reward processing.
Education includes:
- Ph.D. in Biopsychology - Stony Brook University
- M.A. in Biopsychology - Stony Brook University
- B.S. in Psychology - Wofford College
His work demonstrates adolescent drug exposure alters adult brain circuitry, potentially increasing addiction vulnerability. Recognized with the Alester G. Furman Meritorious Advising Award, he presents internationally on dopamine receptor functions.
