International Iberian Nanotechnology LaboratoryAbout
Dr. Omid Reza Ranjbar-Naeini is a Research Fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), where he joined the Nanophononics group in September 2023 to advance low-cost silicon Nano-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (NOEMS) for optical fiber and microwave electronic integration. His current work on the MUSICIAN project targets disruptive applications in 5G networks and Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure through photonic local oscillators, frequency conversion, and electro-optical modulation.
His academic foundation includes a Master of Science in Photonics (2013) with thesis research on micro silica sphere cavity optical fiber sensors, followed by a PhD in Photonics (2022) specializing in optical fiber sensors, spectrometers, biochemical sensors, and optomechanical systems. Prior to INL, he conducted postdoctoral research in quantum electro-optomechanics at the Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures group (P2N) of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) under Prof. Clivia M. Sotomayor Torres.
Dr. Ranjbar-Naeini's research synthesizes nanoscale photonics, optoelectronics, and sensor engineering, with emphasis on practical implementations for telecommunications and IoT. His trajectory demonstrates consistent specialization in optical sensing modalities, evolving from silica-based microcavities to integrated NOEMS platforms for next-generation network hardware.
As a core member of INL's Nanophononics group, he contributes to experimental development of hybrid opto-electro-mechanical systems within collaborative European research frameworks.
