Oliver Kaplan is Associate Professor at Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver, and Director of the Korbel Asylum Project. His research examines civilian self-protection strategies in armed conflicts, with fieldwork in Colombia and the Philippines. He authored 'Resisting War: How Communities Protect Themselves' (Cambridge, 2017) and co-edited 'Speaking Science to Power' (Oxford, 2024).
His current projects analyze technology's role in localization of humanitarian protection and digital resistance strategies. Funded by Carnegie Corporation and Smith Richardson Foundation, his work has appeared in International Affairs and Journal of Conflict Resolution.
Kaplan teaches graduate courses on Human Rights, Peacebuilding, and Civilian Protection, and supervises PhD research on conflict dynamics and human security.
