Oliver Grundmann, Ph.D., is a Clinical Professor and Assistant Dean for Lifelong Learning at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. He earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and European pharmacist license from the University of Münster, Germany (2004), and his M.S. (2007), Ph.D. (2007), and M.Ed. (2014) from the University of Florida. His academic career spans research, teaching, and leadership in pharmaceutical sciences, with a focus on natural products and kratom pharmacology.

His research interests center on exploring natural products for Central Nervous System and Gastrointestinal diseases, including anxiety, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, and GI cancers. Since 2016, he has led collaborative research on kratom (Mitragyna speciosa), investigating its pharmacology, therapeutic potential, and use patterns. He also focuses on international collaborations to enhance health sciences curricula through distance and online education.
His publications (2024–2025) address kratom’s role in the opioid crisis, its toxicology, consumer behavior, and interactions with other substances like cannabinoids. Recent work highlights the need for regulatory clarity, harm reduction potential, and public health strategies for kratom use.
Scientific awards include the Elizabeth Wood Dunlevie Honors Term Professorship (2025–2026), Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (2018), and multiple Outstanding Teaching Team awards at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy.
Grundmann directs the online Master of Science and graduate certificate programs in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Clinical Toxicology and serves as faculty advisor. He teaches courses such as Advanced Topics in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry of Drugs of Abuse, and Clinical Toxicology, with a focus on interdisciplinary and distance education.
