Oliver Davis

Oliver Davis is a Professor of French at University College Cork (UCC), Director of Research and CASiLaC for the School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures, and Editor of Modern & Contemporary France. His research spans four core areas: modern French philosophy, queer theory, psychedelic humanities, and digital governance. He holds editorial roles in prestigious journals and has authored/co-authored books such as Hatred of Sex (2022) and Rancière Now (2013).

Education includes a D.Phil. in French from the University of Oxford (2003), M.St. in European Literature (French) (2000), and BA in Philosophy and French (1999). Prior roles include positions at Warwick University (2006–2020).

Research focuses on 'political technologies,' including critiques of neoliberal governance, the psychedelic renaissance's societal implications, and the role of 'conspiracy theory' in digital policing. Grants include funding from the Arts & Humanities Research Council for projects like Queer Theory in France (€200,000) and The Psychoactive Supper (€20,000).
