Oliver Bown

Associate Professor Oliver Bown is affiliated with the University of New South Wales in the College of Arts, Design & Architecture. His expertise lies in Computational Creativity, Generative Music & Art, and Interactive Media Art & Design, with a focus on the intersection of Creative AI and human musical behavior. He has authored the 2021 book Beyond the Creative Species (MIT Press), exploring the societal implications of creative AI.

• Research Focus: Social dynamics of creativity, evolutionary theory applications to sociotechnical systems, and distributed creative coding frameworks like HappyBrackets.
• Collaborations: Developed distributed audio arrays with media arts collective Squidsoup and is a member of the UK electronic music duo Icarus and the Australian ensemble Tangents.
