About
Dr. Olamide Adebiyi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. She holds a DVM and PhD from the University of Ibadan (Nigeria), and has conducted postdoctoral research at Cornell University and Western University. Her research focuses on myelin repair mechanisms, oligodendrocyte biology, and the impact of environmental contaminants on neurological health.
Academic Credentials:
- DVM, University of Ibadan (2007)
- MSc Veterinary Pharmacology, University of Ibadan (2012)
- PhD Veterinary Physiology (Neurophysiology), University of Ibadan (2017)
- Visiting Fulbright Scholar, Cornell University (2019)
- BrainsCAN Postdoctoral Associate, Western University (2022–2024)
Research Interests: Her work investigates adenosine receptor regulation of oligodendrocyte differentiation, environmental toxin effects on myelination, and neurodevelopmental impacts of gestational heat exposure. She leads the Myelin in Neurodegenerative and Neurotoxic Disorders (MyNND) Lab, exploring therapies to enhance remyelination in multiple sclerosis and related disorders.
Publications & Conferences: Active in publishing neurobiology research (e.g., roles of CAMKIIα in remyelination, gut microbiome-neurodevelopment links), with conference presentations at the European Meeting on Glial Cells and ISN-APSN Conferences. Over 25 peer-reviewed articles highlight her expertise in neurotoxicity, plant-derived neuroprotectants, and myelin biology.
Labs & Collaborations: Director of the MyNND Lab, affiliated with the International Brain Research Organization and African Academy of Sciences. Advocates for neuroscience education in underrepresented groups.
