Olaf Blanke is a Full Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), holding the Foundation Bertarelli Chair in Cognitive Neuroprosthetics. He is affiliated with the School of Life Sciences and Brain Mind Institute, leading the Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience (LNCO) at Campus Biotech in Geneva. Additional roles include membership on the EPFL Committee of Academic Evaluation and Geneva Committee Campus.
His research centers on cognitive neuroscience with emphasis on bodily self-consciousness, multisensory integration, and neuroprosthetics. He develops translational neuroengineering approaches to address neuropsychiatric disorders by bridging basic neuroscience, clinical applications, and engineering. Current projects focus on perceptual mechanisms and their clinical implementations for neurological conditions.
Professor Blanke actively supervises six current PhD students and has mentored 33 past doctoral candidates. His LNCO laboratory serves as an interdisciplinary hub for cognitive neuroscience research. He teaches core courses including "Neuroscience: behavior and cognition" and "Translational neuroengineering," integrating systems neuroscience with clinical technology development.
