
About
Oisín O’Brien is a PhD Student and Clinical Research Associate at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London. He is affiliated with the Department of Psychosis Studies within the School of Academic Psychiatry. His research focuses on refining treatments for schizophrenia, psychiatric biomarkers, and understanding the biological mechanisms of psychosis. He collaborates with Professor Oliver Howes' team on the AnTiconvuLsant AugmeNtation Trial in Schizophrenia (ATLANTIS).
Education: MBBS from Trinity College Dublin (2018), MSc in Neuroscience (awarded Novartis Prize for Best Student), and a 2-year Academic Foundation Programme at Brighton & Sussex Medical School. Clinical training included placements at the National Neuroscience Institute of Singapore and the Walton Centre in Liverpool.
Research Interests: Treatment-Resistant Psychosis, Clinical Psychopharmacology, and Psychoneuroimmunology. His work integrates psychiatric imaging and biomarker analysis to develop novel therapeutic approaches.
Awards: Trinity Foundation Scholarship (for postgraduate study) and Novartis Prize for academic excellence during his MSc.
Advising/Grants: No formal students listed, but actively involved in collaborative research under Prof. Howes. Research focuses on translational studies linking biological mechanisms to clinical outcomes in psychosis.
