About
Oana Serban serves as Professor at the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Philosophy and holds the UNESCO Chair in Interculturality, Good Governance and Sustainable Development. She directs CCIIF – The Research Center for the History of Philosophical Ideas (UB), leading institutional research initiatives in philosophical history.
Her research centers on Early Modern Philosophy, Aesthetics, and Biopolitics, with specialized focus on Holocaust studies as a biopolitical history of antisemitism. Key investigations include the impardonable nature of atrocities, limits of forgiveness, origins of totalitarianism, 20th-century hospitality/hostility dynamics, aestheticization of violence, and cultural memory frameworks. This work bridges philosophical theory with contemporary political challenges through non-Eurocentric lenses.
Recent publications demonstrate interdisciplinary convergence between aesthetics, biopolitics, and cultural theory, particularly examining art's role in post-Holocaust contexts and non-Western philosophical frameworks. Her scholarship consistently challenges Eurocentric paradigms while analyzing modernity's impact on cultural identity and artistic expression.
As Executive Director of CCIIF, she oversees research on philosophical idea evolution, while her UNESCO Chair activities advance intercultural dialogue and sustainable development governance models. Current projects include biopolitical art analysis in post-Holocaust frameworks and Italian biopolitical theory investigations.
