Nuno Nunes

Nuno Nunes is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Madeira. He holds an habilitation from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto, a Ph.D. in Software Engineering from the University of Madeira, and a MEng in Informatics and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon.

His research focuses on applying models to software and system design, with current emphasis on sustainability, service design, and tools. He is the scientific director for HCI and Design at the Carnegie Mellon Portugal partnership, president of the Board of ARDITI (Regional Agency for R&D in Madeira), and president of Madeira-ITI (Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute). He is active in professional organizations such as ACM, IEEE Computer Society, and IFIP TC 13.10 (Human-centered Technology and Sustainability).

Notable contributions include roles in SIGCHI conferences (EICS, IUI, TEI, Interact, ITS) and leadership in collaborative initiatives like Project Echo of the Abyss, a VR experience promoting marine conservation awareness.
