Noshir Contractor

Noshir Contractor holds the position of Jane S. & William J. White Professor of Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University, with appointments across the McCormick School of Engineering & Applied Science, the School of Communication, and the Kellogg School of Management. He is the Director of the Science of Networks in Communities (SONIC) Research Group.

His research program centers on social and knowledge network dynamics, examining how networks form, persist, and dissolve. He applies network science methodologies to enhance networks in business communities of practice, scientific and engineering collaborations, disaster response, public health initiatives, digital media ecosystems, and virtual environments such as Second Life.

Contractor has secured continuous funding for over a decade from the National Science Foundation, supplemented by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), NASA, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation.

Leading the SONIC Research Group, he oversees projects aimed at developing theories and tools for mapping and improving network effectiveness across diverse community contexts.
