Norma Moellers

Norma Moellers is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Queen's University, Faculty of Arts and Science, with affiliations to the Surveillance Studies Centre and Ingenuity Labs Research Institute. Her research explores intersections of science, technology, and politics using ethnographic methods, focusing on security/surveillance technology development and cybersecurity infrastructure.

Education includes a Ph.D. in Sociology from Universität Potsdam (2015) and an M.A. from Universität Passau (2009). Research interests center on how scientists/engineers are mobilized for political purposes and how technology stabilizes social order.

Publications focus on cybersecurity governance, algorithmic power structures, and surveillance capitalism, revealing patterns in technological mediation of state power and social control.

Current research projects include SSHRC-funded studies on state sovereignty in digital infrastructure and cybersecurity's role in shaping digital citizenship.
