Norbert Peeters

Norbert Peeters is a Lecturer in the Philosophy Group at Wageningen University & Research, specializing in botanical philosophy, environmental philosophy, and the history of invasion ecology. His research examines the cultural and conceptual history of plants, including weeds and plant blindness, alongside the origins of invasion ecology in the 18th and 19th centuries. He actively bridges philosophy with natural sciences, particularly in plant and environmental science education.

Peeters has authored and co-edited several books, including Botanische revolutie (2016), Rumphius’ Kruidboek (2020), and Wildernis-vernis (2021), which explore topics ranging from Darwinian botany to colonial herbals.
