Norbert Frey

Prof. Dr. Norbert Frey is a Professor and Medical Director of the Department of Cardiology, Angiology, and Pulmonology at Heidelberg University Hospital (Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg). He holds a W3 professorship and has served in leadership roles since 2020. His career includes prior positions as Medical Director at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (2008–2020) and as Deputy Medical Director at Heidelberg (2002–2008). He specializes in molecular cardiology and clinical cardiology, with research focusing on cardiovascular diseases and heart failure. He leads the Nordic Center of Cardiovascular Research (NCCR) and chairs the Academy of the German Cardiac Society (DGK).

His academic journey includes a medical degree from Kiel University (1994), postdoctoral training at UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, USA), and habilitation at Heidelberg University. He has received notable awards, including the Fritz-Acker-Research Award (2018) and the Arthur-Weber-Preis (2009).

Prof. Frey also oversees a private outpatient clinic specializing in comprehensive cardiological care, including rare heart diseases and post-transplantation management. His clinic emphasizes preventive cardiology and long-term patient care.
