Norbert Bachleitner

Norbert Bachleitner is an Associate Professor for Comparative Literature at the University of Vienna, where he currently serves as Director of the Department of European and Comparative Languages and Literatures. He has held significant leadership positions including Chair of Comparative Literature (2011) and Director of the Department of Comparative Literature (2005-2012).

His research interests encompass diverse areas of literary scholarship:

• Digital literature and emerging literary forms
• Literary theory with emphasis on sociological frameworks
• Intertextuality and textual relationships
• Nineteenth-century book history

Elected as an Ordinary Member (membership #3376) of the Academy of Europe's Literary & Theatrical Studies section in 2012, Bachleitner represents Austrian scholarship in comparative literature. His academic career at the University of Vienna spans since at least 1997 when he was appointed Associate Professor, demonstrating a sustained contribution to humanities scholarship in Europe.
