Noemi Stefanía Csaba

Noemi Stefanía Csaba is a Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), affiliated with the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Department of Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology. She leads the NANOBIOFAR research group, focusing on nanotechnologies for drug delivery systems. Her work emphasizes the development of innovative biomaterials for gene therapy, cancer treatment, and vaccines. Csaba holds a PhD from USC (2005), with a thesis on genetic vaccine delivery systems under the guidance of María José Alonso Fernández and Alejandro Sánchez Barreiro.

Her research interests span nanomedicine, including the design of polyphosphazene-based carriers for glioblastoma treatment, protamine nanocapsules for ocular and pulmonary drug delivery, and chitosan-coated niosomes for transmucosal administration. She is also involved in vaccines against pathogens like pneumococcus, leveraging glycoconjugate nanovaccines and biomaterial engineering.

Her lab's recent work includes lymphatic targeting of anticancer drugs, mucosal delivery systems for peptides, and functionalized nanocarriers for immunotherapy. She collaborates with the Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CIMUS), integrating interdisciplinary approaches to biomedical challenges.

Csaba has published extensively on nanoparticle formulations, drug delivery barriers, and the optimization of nanoscale systems for clinical applications. Her contributions have advanced the understanding of biomaterial interactions with biological systems, particularly in oncology and infectious disease contexts.
