Nobuko Kawashima is a Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Doshisha University (Kyoto, Japan). She holds a PhD in Cultural Policy from the University of Warwick (UK), an MSc in Social Policy, and an LLM (with distinction), both from the London School of Economics.

Her research focuses on cultural policy, creative/cultural industries, creative economy, and the economics of copyright, with a strong emphasis on policy analysis and international comparative studies. She directs the Center for the Study of the Creative Economy at Doshisha University and has served as former President of the Japan Association for Cultural Economics.
Recent scholarly contributions include co-editing Asian Cultural Flows (Springer, 2018) and working on the forthcoming volume Cultural Heritage in Japan and Italy (Springer). Collaboration with the Fondation France-Japon (FFJ) includes a visiting research period from April 2023 to March 2024, focusing on post-pandemic cultural policy resilience.
