About
Dr. Nithya Rajan is Professor of Crop Physiology and Agroecology at Texas A&M University's Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. Her research develops climate-smart farming strategies using remote sensing, cover cropping, and organic management to enhance agricultural resilience.
Research focuses on:
- UAV-based crop monitoring and stress detection
- Soil carbon sequestration strategies
- Greenhouse gas mitigation in cropping systems
- Biological nitrification inhibition
Recent publications demonstrate innovations in remote sensing for disease detection and carbon gain potential in regenerative agriculture. Leads the Rajan Lab team of 16 researchers investigating sustainable cropping systems.
Teaches 'Advances in Agronomic Sciences' and mentors doctoral candidates including Pramod Pokhrel and Jennifer MacMillan. Research supported by USDA and NSF grants.
