Dr Nina Whiteman is an Associate Professor and Composition Lead in the Department of Music at Royal Holloway, University of London. She holds a PhD in Composition from the University of Manchester (2009) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA, 2021). Her work bridges music composition, multimedia art, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a focus on AI, environmental technology, and spatial sonic design.
Research interests include maze-inspired notation systems, AI-driven multimedia projects (e.g., The Cybird Trilogy, BELOW GROUND), and the intersection of nature and technology. Her compositions have been performed globally, including at the Cheltenham Music Festival and World Music Days festival (Slovenia). She co-founded Manchester Contemporary Youth Opera and collaborates with artists across disciplines, such as motion-graphics installations and performance art.
