Dr. Nina Stanczyk is a Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zürich. Her research focuses on understanding how insects, particularly mosquitoes, locate and interact with human hosts, with an emphasis on vector olfaction and malaria transmission dynamics. She investigates how malaria infection alters host odors to enhance mosquito attraction, leading to new strategies for vector control through repellent/attractant development. Her work bridges chemical ecology, medical entomology, and public health.
Dr. Stanczyk has held postdoctoral positions at ETH Zürich (2015–present), the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2012–2015), and Penn State University (2011–2012). She earned her PhD in Genetics from the University of Nottingham and Rothamsted Research Institute (2007–2011). Her research has explored DEET resistance in mosquitoes, volatile biomarkers for malaria diagnosis, and species-specific olfactory responses in Anopheles mosquitoes.
