Nina Lerman is an Associate Professor of History at Whitman College, teaching courses on colonial and 19th-century US history, social/cultural history, gender, race, and material culture. She holds a Ph.D. in History and Sociology of Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Her research examines intersections of technology, knowledge, and social power, particularly how access to technological skills shaped gender, race, and class hierarchies in industrializing America. Current projects analyze apprenticeship systems, industrial education, and racial ideologies in technological 'progress'.
