Nils Matzner is a Post Doc researcher at the Department of Science, Technology and Society within the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). His research focuses on governance and responsibility of emerging climate technologies, employing interdisciplinary methods including discourse analysis and network research. He holds a PhD in Science and Technology Studies from the University of Klagenfurt (2019), and has held prior positions at RWTH Aachen University (2011–2014) and the University of Klagenfurt (2014–2020), where he contributed to the German Research Foundation’s Priority Program 1689 on Climate Engineering.
His work emphasizes stakeholder engagement in carbon dioxide removal (CDR) research, regional implementation of climate technologies, and the societal implications of innovations like BECCS. Current projects include leadership roles in MCTS (since 2020) and BioNET (since 2022), exploring biomass-based CDR and interdisciplinary collaboration frameworks. He has also analyzed digital cultural phenomena, including theater adaptations during the pandemic and social media strategies for literary festivals.
