Nilesh Raut is a Researcher at the London School of Economics (LSE), currently serving as a Research Officer in LSE Health on a project with Vitality. Previously, he was an LSE Fellow in the Department of Health Policy. He holds a PhD in Health Economics and Policy from LSE, a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from Dr. B.A. Technological University, India, and two master’s degrees in economics from the US. His work integrates health, long-term care financing, and housing policy, focusing on low- and middle-income populations in the US and globally.
Research interests include the economics of aging, health insurance, household finance, and intergenerational health behaviors. He has consulted for the World Health Organization (WHO) on long-term care financing and investigates how early-life factors like nutrition and exercise influence healthy aging. His PhD explored caregiving demand/supply dynamics and care financing.
Awardees of grants include the 2024 BA Leverhulme Small Research Grant and 2021 LSE Phelan Summer Research Grant. Prior experience includes roles at SIEMENS as a Design Executive Engineer and project management for the New York State Department of Mental Health’s IT data center migration.
Labs/Teams: Active in LSE Health and the Vitality research collaboration. Engaged in interdisciplinary work bridging health economics, policy, and public health.
