Nilda Garcia

Nilda Garcia, M.D., FACS, serves as Professor and Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin, with a Courtesy Professorship in the Department of Pediatrics. She concurrently holds the positions of surgeon in chief and medical director of Children’s Surgery at Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Her educational background includes:

• Bachelor's in Pharmacy, The University of Texas at Austin
• M.D., University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas
• Residency in General Surgery, UT Southwestern/Parkland Hospital (with two-year research fellowship)
• Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery, Los Angeles Children's Hospital

Dr. Garcia specializes in pediatric surgical care with emphasis on trauma management and complex general surgery cases. Her clinical approach integrates evidence-based practice with innovative techniques to optimize outcomes for pediatric patients. With extensive experience spanning over two decades since her Dallas practice period (1998-2010), she maintains active leadership in advancing surgical standards through academic medicine.

As division chief at Dell Children's, she directs comprehensive surgical services while fostering collaborative relationships across medical specialties to enhance integrated pediatric care delivery in Central Texas.
