Nilay Shah

Professor Nilay Shah is a Professor of Process Systems Engineering at Imperial College London's Department of Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering. He holds affiliations with the Sargent Centre for Process Systems Engineering and multiple interdisciplinary initiatives including the Agri Futures Lab, Energy Futures Lab, and Future Vaccine Manufacturing Research Hub. His professional experience includes serving as Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering (2016-2021) and Director of the Centre for Process Systems Engineering (2009-2016).

Shah's research focuses on energy systems optimization, low-carbon technologies, supply chain design, and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Key areas include bioenergy systems, urban energy solutions, and industrial decarbonisation. He has pioneered methods for integrating sustainability into supply chains and pharmaceutical processes.

His work spans over 30 years at Imperial College, where he has also received awards such as the Junior Moulton Medal (1996) and Teaching Excellence Award (1995). His current projects address global challenges in green hydrogen infrastructure, vaccine manufacturing resilience, and carbon capture technologies.
