About
Nikos Laskaris is an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics, School of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He received his PhD in Biomedical Signal Processing (1998), Master's in Medical Physics (1995), and Bachelor's in Physics (1993) from the University of Patras, Greece. His career spans postdoctoral research at RIKEN (1999-2003), associate researcher at Patras University (2003-2004), and faculty roles at Aristotle University since 2004.
- PhD: Computational Intelligence in Brain Signal Processing, University of Patras (1998)
- Master's: Medical Physics, University of Patras (1995)
- Bachelor's: Physics, University of Patras (1993)
His research focuses on applying computational intelligence to neuroscience, particularly in Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs), BioSignal Analysis, and NeuroInformatics. Recent work explores the integration of deep learning with Riemannian geometry, causal modeling, and wavelet scattering transforms for EEG interpretation.
His publications (over 150 papers, 80+ in peer-reviewed journals) emphasize EEG decoding, motor imagery recognition, neuromarketing, and epilepsy anomaly detection. He founded the Neuroinformatics Group and contributed to EC-funded projects like H2020 MAMEM.
Current projects include BINGO (Brain-Imagined Speech Communication) and MOTHER (Multimedia Authoring via Brain Interfaces), with a focus on VR/AR integration through the startup Cogitat during his 2021 sabbatical at Imperial College London.
