Nikolay Shtinkov

Nikolay Shtinkov is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Ottawa. Previously affiliated with the Faculty of Physics at Sofia University, his research spans semiconductor materials science, quantum nanostructures, and biodiversity studies. His work focuses on epitaxial growth techniques, quantum dot engineering, and optoelectronic applications, alongside ecological studies on Lepidoptera species in the Balkan Peninsula. He holds a replacement professorship role and contributes to academic research through collaborations in Canada and internationally.

Research interests include semiconductor quantum dots, dilute nitride alloys, rolled-up nanotubes, and strain engineering, alongside conservation biology and butterfly taxonomy in Southeastern Europe. His publications explore material characterization via Raman scattering, surface photovoltage, and computational modeling, alongside ecological surveys of endangered Lepidoptera species.

Notable contributions include studies on liquid phase epitaxy for photovoltaic materials, strain-induced self-organization in nanostructures, and species distribution patterns of Pyrgus and Lycaena butterflies. His work bridges condensed matter physics and biodiversity research through interdisciplinary approaches.
