About
Associate Professor Nikki Vercauteren is a faculty member in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo, where she joined in April 2021. Her research bridges atmospheric sciences, data science, and computational science to advance Earth-System modeling.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Environmental Sciences, EPFL (2011)
- Postdoctoral researcher, Hydrology group at Stockholm University
Vercauteren's research centers on multiscale atmospheric flows, particularly boundary-layer processes. She investigates land-atmosphere interactions, near-surface atmospheric dynamics, turbulence, and energy transfers using data-driven pattern detection, scientific computing, and multiscale modeling to develop improved parameterization schemes for climate models.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Alexander von Humboldt research scholarship (2013)
She supervises projects including "Geoscience Modelling microscale atmospheric turbulence in the surface layer" and previously led the interfaculty Master Program in "Computational Sciences" at Freie Universität Berlin, where she also directed a research group on Multiscale data analysis for the Geosciences.
