Dr. Nikita Simpson is Reader in Anthropology and Co-director of the Centre for Anthropology and Mental Health Research in Action (CAMHRA) at SOAS. Her research examines mental health, care infrastructures, and inequality through ethnographic engagements in South Asia and the UK. Awarded multiple prizes including the Alfred Gell Prize for doctoral work on embodied distress among Gaddi women in Himalayan India.
Current projects investigate: 1) Housing-related racial trauma in UK temporary accommodations, 2) Ecological distress from invasive species and land dispossession in Himalayas, and 3) Comparative care infrastructures through Sydney Policy Lab. Previously led ESRC/Periscope research on COVID-19 governance, producing influential policy reports on death management, care networks, and social infrastructure.
Publications appear in Medical Anthropology Quarterly, JRAI, and BMJ Global Health. Supervises doctoral research on community organization in educational spaces.
